Philosophy of Management
• Information Technology needs to address each member of the company as a customer and hold themselves to a standard that compares their levels of service to “their theoretical marketplace alternative”.
• Always know why you are working on a project and how it fits into the long term vision of the department and the company. If you don’t know this, stop working and seek out the answers. Understanding direction and purpose makes for better decisions.
• Systems are meant to steer behavior, not dictate process. Establish a process that best gets the job done. Then modify or change the systems to support the desired process. If there is no way for the system to support the desired process, start looking for a new system.
• You need to “sell” your vision to your peers in the company, not force it upon them. Proactively facilitate collaboration rather than wait for it to happen.
• Run Lean. It forces you to make good choices based on priority and needs.
